How to Record with Webcam Overlay
Adding a webcam overlay puts your face alongside your screen recording. This makes demos, tutorials, and walkthroughs more personal and easier to follow.
Steps
-
Open the Launcher and create a new project (or open an existing one). Click Record.
-
Enable the Screen toggle — choose the tab, window, or full screen you want to capture.
-
Enable the Camera toggle — your browser will ask for webcam permission if this is your first time. Allow it.
-
Select the right camera — if you have multiple cameras (built-in + external), use the dropdown below the camera preview to pick the one you want.
-
Enable the Microphone toggle (recommended) — a webcam overlay usually means you're narrating, so turn on your mic too.
-
Click Start Recording, do your walkthrough, then Stop Recording when done.
-
Arrange the layout in Editor — after recording, the Editor opens. Use the Layouts tab to position your camera feed (corner bubble, side by side, or any custom arrangement).
Tips
-
Good lighting matters — face a light source (window or desk lamp). Avoid having a bright window behind you.
-
Check your background — make sure there's nothing distracting visible behind you.
-
Use an external webcam for better quality — built-in laptop cameras are typically lower resolution.
-
The webcam does not record audio — always enable the Microphone component separately for voice narration. You can select your camera's built-in mic from the microphone device dropdown.
-
Close other apps using the camera — only one app can use the webcam at a time.
You can reposition and resize the webcam overlay in the Editor after recording. Don't worry about getting the layout perfect before you start.
