How to Export for Social Media
Different platforms need different aspect ratios. Screen Script lets you set the aspect ratio in the Editor, so your video is framed correctly before you export.
Recommended aspect ratios by platform
| Platform | Recommended Ratio | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube | 16:9 | Standard landscape video |
| 16:9 or 1:1 | Feed posts and articles | |
| Instagram Reels | 9:16 | Vertical short-form video |
| TikTok | 9:16 | Vertical short-form video |
| YouTube Shorts | 9:16 | Vertical short-form video |
| Instagram Feed | 1:1 | Square post format |
| Twitter / X | 16:9 or 1:1 | Feed video |
Steps
-
Open your project in the Editor.
-
Set the aspect ratio — go to Project Settings in the properties panel and change the aspect ratio to match your target platform (e.g., 9:16 for Reels/TikTok/Shorts).
-
Adjust your layout — after changing the aspect ratio, reposition your video sources so they look good in the new frame. A vertical layout may need the camera below or above the screen recording instead of side by side.
-
Trim if needed — social media videos work best when they're short and focused. Trim to keep only the most engaging content.
-
Export — click Export, choose a resolution that fits the platform (1080x1920 for vertical, 1080x1080 for square), and render.
Tips
- Keep it short — under 60 seconds works best for Reels, TikTok, and Shorts.
- Front-load the hook — put the most interesting moment in the first 3 seconds.
- Use zoom effects — on smaller mobile screens, zooming into key UI elements makes them easier to see.
- Test at actual size — preview your video on your phone before publishing to make sure text and UI elements are readable.
