Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is Screen Script?

Screen Script is a browser-based recorder and editor for creating product demos, walkthroughs, and tutorial videos. You can record, edit, and export without installing any software.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Screen Script runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to download or install.

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome and Edge are recommended — they offer the best performance, system audio capture, and higher storage limits. Screen Script also works in Firefox and Safari, but some features like system audio may be limited. See the Recorder overview for details.

Does Screen Script work on mobile?

Screen Script is designed for desktop browsers. Mobile browsers do not support the screen capture APIs needed for recording.

Do I need to sign in?

Yes. You need to sign in to access the Launcher and create projects. Signing in is free and only takes a moment.

Is Screen Script free?

Yes — there is a free plan that lets you record, edit, and export videos. The free plan has some limits: a watermark on exports, capped export quality, a maximum of 8 projects, and single-layout videos only. To remove these limits, you can upgrade to the Premium plan at $7/month (billed annually at $84/year) or $15/month on a monthly subscription. See pricing for full details.

What do I get with Premium?

Premium removes the watermark, unlocks higher export resolutions, allows unlimited projects, and enables dynamic layouts — meaning you can change how your screen, camera, and other video sources are arranged at different points during playback.

How many projects can I create?

Free users can have up to 8 projects at a time. If you need more, delete existing projects to free up a slot, or upgrade to Premium for unlimited projects.

How do I contact support?

You can reach out by email at sachindas246@gmail.com for any questions, feedback, or issues.

Recording

What sources can I record?

You can record any combination of:

  • Screen — capture a tab, window, or full screen (with optional system audio)
  • Camera — overlay your webcam feed
  • Microphone — record voice narration
  • Android — stream your phone screen over Wi-Fi (beta)

See the Recorder component guide for full details on each source.

Is screen recording mandatory?

No. You can record with any enabled source — camera only, microphone only, or any combination. At least one source must be enabled before you can start.

Do I need to grant permissions every time?

It depends on the source:

  • Camera and microphone — your browser can remember the permission, so you only need to allow it once.
  • Screen capture — you must select which screen, window, or tab to share every time. This is a browser security requirement.

What is Android recording?

Android recording lets you stream your phone screen to Screen Script over Wi-Fi using an MJPEG stream. You need a companion app like ScreenStream on your Android device. This feature is currently in beta. See the Android Recorder guide for setup steps.

Can I record multiple sources at once?

Yes. You can record screen + camera + microphone together, or any supported combination.

Editing

What editing tools are available?

The Editor includes:

  • Trimming — cut the start and end of your recording, or split and delete segments.
  • Zoom effects — add smooth zoom-in and zoom-out keyframes at specific points.
  • Layouts — arrange how your screen and camera feeds are positioned, with transitions between layouts.
  • Wallpapers — set a solid color, built-in image, or custom image behind your content.
  • Audio controls — adjust microphone and system audio levels independently.
  • Styling — configure outline strokes, colors, and thickness around video layers.

See the Editor overview for a full breakdown.

What are timeline modes?

The Editor has three timeline modes:

  1. Media — trim, split, and delete segments. Changes apply to all recorded tracks at once.
  2. Layouts — change the arrangement of your camera and screen at different points in time.
  3. Zoom Effects — add zoom-and-pan keyframes to highlight specific areas.

What aspect ratios are supported?

16:9, 4:3, 1:1, and 9:16. Choose the one that fits your output channel — 16:9 for most screens, 9:16 for mobile and social media.

Are projects saved automatically?

No. Use the Save button in the Editor to save manually. When you click Export, the project is also saved automatically before the export page opens.

Exporting

How does export work?

  1. Click Export in the Editor top bar.
  2. Choose a preset resolution or enter custom width and height.
  3. Click Export video and wait for rendering to complete.
  4. Download the MP4 file or use the browser share option.

See the Exporter overview for more details.

What format does Screen Script export?

Screen Script exports video as MP4.

Can I switch tabs while exporting?

Not recommended. Browsers throttle background tabs, which can slow down or interrupt the rendering process. Keep the export tab active for best results.

How can I make export faster?

  • Switch your system to Performance mode. On Windows, go to Settings → System → Power & battery and set the power mode to Best performance.
  • Close other browser tabs and heavy applications to free up CPU and RAM.
  • Lower resolutions export faster than higher ones.

Storage and Data

Where are my projects stored?

Project data and media are stored locally in your browser's storage (IndexedDB) on your device. Projects are not uploaded to a server.

Can I access my projects from another device or browser?

No. Projects are stored only in the browser you created them in. Switching browsers, devices, or clearing browser data will remove your projects.

How can I back up my projects?

You can use a browser extension like IDBPorter to export your IndexedDB data. See the Launcher guide for more backup details.

What are the storage limits?

Storage depends on your browser:

  • Chrome / Edge — higher storage quota (typically several GB).
  • Safari / Firefox — much lower quota and more aggressive cleanup.

Delete old or unused projects to free up space. Avoid using incognito/private mode, as storage is wiped when the window closes.
