How to Change Video Layout
Layouts control how your recorded sources — screen, camera, and phone — are arranged in the final video. Screen Script lets you change layouts at different points in time, so you can switch from a side-by-side view to a full-screen view mid-video.
Dynamic layouts (multiple layout changes within a single video) are a Premium feature. Free users can set one layout for the entire video.
Steps
-
Open your project in the Editor after recording.
-
Switch to the Layouts tab in the timeline selector at the bottom of the editor.
-
Adjust the current layout — in the viewport, drag and resize your video sources (screen, camera) to arrange them how you want. You can change tile size, position, corner radius, and layer order.
-
Add a layout change (Premium) — move the playhead to the point in your timeline where you want a different arrangement, and create a new layout segment. Adjust the positions for that segment.
-
Set transitions — Screen Script can transition smoothly between layout segments. Adjust the transition style between segments.
-
Preview using the play button to see how the layout changes feel during playback.
Common layout patterns
- Full screen + small camera — screen recording takes the full frame, with a small camera bubble in the corner. Great for product demos.
- Side by side — screen and camera split the frame. Works well for tutorials where your face adds context.
- Camera only — full-frame camera for intro/outro segments or when explaining something without the screen.
- Screen only — hide the camera when you want viewers focused entirely on the UI.
Tips
- Start simple — one or two layout changes per video is usually enough. Too many switches can feel jarring.
- Use layout changes at natural breaks — switch layouts when you transition between topics or sections, not mid-sentence.
- Keep the camera visible when talking — if you're narrating, viewers benefit from seeing your face.
